Síclovía: Fall 2012

My time at Síclovía on October 7th 2012 was marvelous.

I have a ton of shaky video which I need to stabilize before posting but I thought I'd share some images from the media.

Included are some of the more acceptable caps.  The rest are available on Plus or Picasa.

I will have to admit that things are indeed getting better here in San Antonio.  This city is making moves that ensure safety and create many more miles of paths free of autos.

What really impressed me was the controlled order of the event.  Police were everywhere to ensure the safety and well being of everyone.

I'll leave you with some sights of the event in the pictures below.  You can see more on my Picasa page linked from my Plus profile.

A fitting end.  Bombay Bicycle Club!

The First Post

Every blog needs a first post.
I suppose this will be it.

Obligatory "Never Done this Before" disclaimer:

I've "Never Done this Before" and therefore I disclaim any responsibility for a poor start.  You can trash me later if I don't develop it further and cause irreparable damage to your corneas.

Heritage:

Italian.  I thank my grandfather for the great name.  I also have Native American and Irish in my Heinz 57 mix.

Bio:

I was born in and have lived all my life in San Antonio, Texas.  I've not traveled much due to economic limitations but I have been to Canada, Mexico and to various places in these United States.  My favorites so far are Montreal Canada, Monterrey Mexico, New Hampshire, Vermont and of course, San Antonio Texas.
Married to a loving and gorgeous wife and we have multiple beautiful children.  They will be the death of me.
Office Worker Bee turning the allergy causing pollen of paperwork into a bittersweet honey of productivity which keeps the machine running.  A living death.  My goal is to escape it as soon as possible.

Hobbies:

Motor Sports especially the off-road variety.  The World Rally Championship (WRC found at http://www.wrc.com/) being the most exciting for me.  Yes, we have Subaru's.
Motorcycling.  Again, the more off road the better.  My current wish is to find a nice Kawasaki KLR 650.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_KLR650) to call my own and care for.  My last bike was and Yamaha Enduro.  So you can see the connection.
This gorgeous beast will soon be mine if the wife concedes!

Bicycling.  When you don't yet have your motorcycle, jump on your pedal bike!  My current ride is a Trek (I'll always call it a Turk in my dysfunctional brain.) DS 8.2 which I felt was a good compromise of usability and affordability at the time it followed me home.

Trek (Turk) DS 8.2

(http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/mountain/dual_sport/ds_series/8_2_ds) My current mission is to add the fenders and panniers and an obnoxious pedestrian advisory device.  My local bike shops are SA Cycles (http://sacycles.com/) and BlueStar Bike Shop (sorry, I won't share a Facebook link.)  Please visit them.  The owners of SA Cycles are great and Tina is a fantastic staff person.  When feeling like a corporate shill, I visit Bike World and haunt Academy Sports for cheap accessories.  I ride mostly on paved surfaces but will soon have an legacy mountain bike fixed up for the dirt and gravel paths soon.  More on that project later.  One of the musings I've had are to join up on one of these 50 plus mile adventures just to see if I can do it. It's one of those bucket list thingies.

Hobbies I'd like to explore:

This Bloggie Thingy.  I'd like to see what I can do with it.
Taking better pictures.  I love my adventures and wish to share what I see.  I'm not using much more than my cell phone at the moment and would like to move up to a better soul catcher.  In the meantime, please comment on the pictures I've taken so far.  I'll ignore the important constructive suggestions and instead fixate on childish revenge scenarios for criticisms.  ;)

This pic was taken on the San Antonio River Mission Trail

The clouds were very red that evening.

Past Tense Future Tense

I've got a couple of previous events I'd like to add to the blog and will do so shortly. They include Siclovia, and a couple of events I've recently attended.
